Health Policy

Good policy needs good information. The Health Policy Division’s purpose is to provide comprehensive and accurate information so that governments and other bodies can make better decisions and allocate funds more effectively.

The division covers international public health with a strong focus on product development for the ‘neglected diseases’ of developing countries, such as malaria, sleeping sickness and tuberculosis.

Key Strategies

Government incentives and policies to stimulate pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) for ‘neglected diseases’ are failing to deliver the necessary public health goods. This is largely due to a lack of empirical information on the costs and effectiveness of various R&D approaches which, in turn, leads to sub-optimal public R&D investment strategies and policies.

The Health Policy Division aims to address these deficits by:

  • Generating and gathering accurate information on product development for neglected diseases in developing countries
  • Providing information to governments and philanthropic organisations to influence policy-making and funds allocation

Dr Mary Moran is the Director of the Health Policy Division.
